Department of Commerce, Vidyanagar College, started functioning from the year 1964-65 with affiliation from the University of Calcutta. In the initial stage the college was granted affiliation only for B.Com. Pass Course of study. Later on, in the year 1973–74 affiliation was also granted for B.Com. Honours Course in Accountancy. Afterwards the Council of the “West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education” granted recognition to Vidyanagar College as the Institution, for imparting Higher Secondary Education in General Stream including commerce with effect from 1st July, 1976. The Higher Secondary Course continued in the College till 2001 and as per Govt. order this course was withdrawn from the College from the academic session 2001-02. The faculty always tries to enrich the students by adopting various teaching and learning methodologies. We have strong alumni who are presently working at different positions in reputed sectors like corporate, banks, business etc. we focus over all development of our students and hence we encourage them to take part in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities like NSS, Games & Sports, Cultural events and also in various college level and University Level competitions. We follow the practice of industrial level and field visits for practical and project work. For our average students we conduct remedial teaching and the progress of our students is observed through mentor and mentee. Four of our faculties are pursuing Ph. D degree. Our faculty always tries to enhance their knowledge by participating in various co-curricular activities like examination duties, syllabus restructuring seminars, workshops, National and International level seminars, NSS and Sports activities, E-content development etc. The Department thus prepares students for Industry 4.0 by enabling students to experience worldclass Internship Opportunities, training sessions by industry experts, Leadership Development, Personality Development and overall, Skill Enhancement through certification programmes, Students seminar, Guest Lectures and expert talks, workshops, field visits and project tours.
