Economics

The Department of Economics has been existing in the College since 5th August 1963. Prof. Rabindranath Bhattacherjee joined the Department as the first full-time lecturer. At the time, this institution offered three-years bachelor degree in Pass Course affiliated to the University of Calcutta. So, Economics was offered as a Pass Course subject. At the pre-university level Economics and Political Science were offered as a combined subject. In the beginning the subject was taught at the B.A./B.Sc. and B.Com. (General) level. From 1976 to 2001, the Department also offered the Higher Secondary course. Honours in Economics was introduced in 2001.
