Vidyanagar College

Principal's Desk

Vidyanagar College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It is located on the road joining Amtala and Budge Budge to Bishnupur, Block-II in the District of South 24-Parganas, some thirty kilometres away from Esplanade, the administrative and commercial hub of the city of Kolkata. The college, though only a little away from the south-west fringes of the metropolis, is situated entirely in a rural setting amidst lush pastures. The college came into being on 29 July, 1963 as the unflinching zeal and social commitment of visionaries of the locality as late Sri Dhirendranath Bera and late Sri Harendranath Majumder.

Founded on 29th July 1963, Vidyanagar College has traversed half a century of its chequered existence through the travails of times, undaunted in giving shape to the aspirations and yearnings of a predominantly rural community, though despairingly challenged socially and economically, resilient enough to dream and deliver. The institution was established as a result of the relentless efforts of the late Dhirendranath Bera and the late Harendranath Majumdar, who were committed to the holistic development of the young people in its fold, instilling in them a sense of dignity and self-respect through providing quality education at the tertiary level. Since its very inception Vidyanagar College has been persevering for a sustained holistic development of its vast rural and suburban hinterland, envisioning a paradigm shift in the mindset and mores.

The Objective of the College, advancement of learning, strongly manifests the spirit of Education for Empowerment. Accordingly, Vidyanagar College ever since its inception has empowered thousands of young people, particularly those displaced from the erstwhile East Pakistan and also those belonging to the backward communities of the area.

President's Desk

It is my honor to serve as the President of the Governing Body of Vidyanagar College. As an alumnus of this esteemed institution, I feel deeply privileged to give back to the place that laid the foundation for my journey.

My mission has always extended beyond business. I have been deeply engaged in social upliftment through initiatives in education, health, literacy, rural development, and infrastructure—particularly across the villages of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. These experiences have shaped my belief that true development lies in empowering the common people and nurturing young minds.

As President, I have remained actively involved in every developmental effort of the college. From improving academic infrastructure to encouraging holistic growth among students, I approach each initiative with passion and purpose. Vidyanagar College is not just an educational institution; it is a beacon of hope for future generations.

With the dedicated efforts of our faculty, staff, and students, I am confident we will continue to achieve great milestones. I look forward to contributing further to the college’s progress and working toward a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
