Department of Games & Sports


The students of Vidyanagar College actively participate in various sporting events at the University, District, State and some at the National level. Keeping in mind the enthusiasm of the students, the college has provided maximum facilities and opportunities to the students to practice different sports such as football, cricket, athletics, kho-kho. Recently the college has arranged for yoga classes conducted by a qualified yoga practitioner. A multigym has been conducted which will become functional very soon.

Highlights of sporting achievements since 1990:

» Winner of Heramba Maitra Smriti Shield (Football), 1990.

» Winner of Inter Non-Governmental College (South 24 Parganas) Football Tournament, 1999-2000.

» Sri Chandra Ghosh winner of 100 mts race in the Inter Non-Governmental College (South 24 Parganas) during 2004-05 session.
Sri Subhransu Sekhar Nayek won the third place in Putting the Shot event .

» During 2005-6 session Sri Chandra Ghosh repeated his performance in the same tournament. In this tournament Sri Yasin Daptari won the third place in the High Jump event.
During the same period a one-day seminar cum workshop was organized by Sri Jayanta Das, an yoga expert.

»On 11th February 2006 Mr. Michel Souvestre, Chief Spotter, F.C. Auveres of France and Mr. Wolfgang Miller, Project Manager, Alisk Memorial Society, Conducted an Interactive Session on Soccer Training, in the College premises.

» 2006-07 - Sri Gorachand Barui represented West Bengal in the West Bengal - Bangladesh Games which took place between 24th to 28th February 2007.
The College Cricket and Kabadi teams qualified upto the quarter final level. Sri Yasin Daptari won the third place in the High Jump event in the Inter Non-Governmental College (South 24 Parganas) Athletic Tournament.

» 2007 -08 session saw our boys emerging as the champions of the Inter College Kho-Kho Championship (University of Calcutta). Our girls emerged as the Runners Up in the same tournament

» 2008-09 the boys emerged as the Runners Up in the Inter - College Kho-Kho Championship (University of Calcutta). Sri Manish Chandra Das won the second place in the 100 metres of 200 metres race in Inter Non-Governmental College Athletics Tournament.

» 2009-2010 - The boys and the girls qualified up to the semi - final level in the Inter College Kho - Kho Tournament. Sri Manish Chandra Das won the second place in the 200 mts race event and Sri Kaushik Patra won the third place in the 800 mts race event, in the Inter Non-Governmental College (South 24 Parganas), Athletic championships.

** Sri Somnath Gayen

1. Somnath Gayen got 1st position in Broad Jump in state meet held on 28th and 29th March, 2015 at S.A.I. Salt Lake.

2. Avijit Kayal represented Calcutta University Kho-Kho Team.

3. Annual Sports was held on 24th and 25th Feb, 2015 in the College Ground.

4. Yoga classes are being held regularly in the college under the supervision of instructor Sri Mrinal Malik.

1. Four students have been selected in the Calcutta University Kho Kho team for men. They are Abhijit Kayal, Bimal Mondal, Rajesh Das and Ranajit Parui.

2. Annual Sports was held on 19th and 20th February 2016 on the college ground.

3.Yoga classes are being held regularly in the college under the supervision of instructor Sri Mrinal Malik.

Inauguration of the Gymnasium building-

On 6th of January 2016 the Gymnasium building was formally inaugurated by the Honourable President of India Sri Pranab Mukherjee. Two separate sections, one for men and the other for women have been constructed. Among the equipments there are five point work station, exercise bikes, trademill etc.
